Borders : Observing the Margins to Question the World explores the complex and evolving concept of the border. On a global scale, the exhibition examines its multiple uses: as a source of profit and exploitation, a means of subsistence, a line of demarcation, and also as a living space. It also addresses the dynamics of crossing borders, highlighting human realities that are often overlooked.
The mobile exhibition Ciao Italia ! explores the history of Italian immigration and its contributions to French society and culture.
The mobile exhibition Mondes Tsiganes was taken from the temporary exhibition held at the Musée National de l’Histoire de l’Immigration in Paris in 2018. It helps to deconstruct negative images of populations viewed as foreign to the societies they live in, particularly in France.
How does comic art address the issue of migration? At the intersection of cultural history and the history of immigration, the mobile exhibition Sortir des cases (Thinking outside the boxes) focuses on the authors who have progressively taken up this subject. It also highlights a dual evolution: comic narratives have changed over time, as have the representations of migration and the foreigner.
The collections of the Musée National de l’Histoire de l’Immigration can be made available temporarily to museums and cultural institutions for exhibition projects, under certain conditions. The website of the Musée National de l’Histoire de l’Immigration presents images of works or objects from its collections but also from other sources. Please pay attention to the copyright information under the image in order to contact the copyright holders. The museum has the images in a digital version, which can be sent to you free of charge. However, many works that have been integrated into the Museum’s collections are subject to copyright. Before any visual of a work under copyright can be sent, prior authorisation must be secured, and a copyright fee may need to be paid to the artist or his/her successors. We will notify you of the procedures required should you encounter this situation.
The Museum’s in-house scientific bodies give an opinion on each proposition. Those found to be in line with the framework of the heritage collections are submitted to the acquisitions committee at the Musée National de l’Histoire de l’Immigration, which meets once or twice a year. At the end of this procedure, the object will definitively enter the national public collections: it thus becomes inalienable, unseizable and imprescriptible. Several months may go by between a donation proposal and the selected object(s) entering into the collection. During this time, the museum team works closely with the owner.
